Facilitating Online Learning - EDTC 5503
This class covered topics related to successful teaching in either a fully online format or a blended format. As one of two Instructional Technologists that serves a district of 28 schools and almost 20,000 students, moving our professional development and training opportunities to a more online based has become a necessity. It was very beneficial to learn the techniques and strategies that allow teachers to continue to build relationships, provide quality instruction and necessary support when meeting face when in an online environment. I was able to put many of the concepts from this course into immediate practice, which was amazing!
For this course, we were asked to imagine that we were going to pitch the idea of an online or hybrid class to our administration. This included target audience, proof of need, class structure and more. I chose to design a proposal around an identified need in one of my schools, digital storytelling using iPads. With this proposed online, asynchronous class the teachers would be given the opportunity to develop skills and techniques for adding creativity and storytelling to their lessons. Their learning would be available on their time. I believe this would be a great addition to my district's technology professional development options. The process of developing the proposal was very helpful.
